Day two of apartment-hunting in DC (2 May 2019) brought me to three more new, fancy buildings. I’m going to mix in couple of representative amenity photos from day one, since I didn’t find the largely interchangeable gyms and game rooms so photo-worthy on day two.
But in the end, the newer, flashier buildings didn’t win me over, not when the cheap place was $500 a month cheaper than its closest rival. I was tempted by the second place I visited on the second day of my hunt, where I would have been the very first occupant of a brand new studio. And my parents tried to steer me in that direction with emails encouraging me to splurge a little and move in to a really spiffy new place.
But think what I can do with that extra $500 a month. A gym membership and sessions with a personal trainer! Washington Nationals games with all the $12 ballpark beers I want to drink! Wining and dining all the Tinder dates I can get! Occasionally shopping at Whole Foods!
So I filled out the application at the cheap, but still perfectly serviceable, older apartment building. I’m hoping my experience there will be just as positive as at my last building in DC, which was of a similar age and monthly rent. We’ll soon find out. I aim to move this week (May 6-10).
