Destinations

Below are the cities on my itinerary. I began my trip by visiting my sister Meghan, my brother-in-law Aaron, and my train-obsessed two-year-old nephew Eli in Eugene, OR, USA from 28 March to 3 April 2018. No city in North America makes the cut in terms of low cost of living, so the rest of my trip takes me to other continents:

  1. Taipei, Taiwan: 4-10 April 2018
  2. Tainan, Taiwan: 10-17 April 2018
  3. Kaohsiung, Taiwan: 17-24 April 2018
  4. Kandy, Sri Lanka: 25-30 April 2018
  5. Valencia, Spain: 3-9 May 2018
  6. Malaga, Spain: 9-15 May 2018
  7. Porto, Portugal: 17-23 May 2018
  8. Split, Croatia: 23-29 May 2018
  9. Ljubljana, Slovenia: 31 May-7 June 2018
  10. Zagreb, Croatia: 7-13 June 2018
  11. Brasov, Romania: 13-20 June 2018
  12. Cluj, Romania: 20-27 June 2018
  13. Prague, Czechia: 27 June-4 July 2018
  14. Olomouc, Czechia: 4-11 July 2018
  15. Krakow, Poland: 11-18 July 2018
  16. Poznan, Poland: 18-25 July 2018
  17. Kaunas, Lithuania: 25-30 July 2018
  18. Tallinn, Estonia: 1-7 August 2018

With so many cities on my itinerary, travel guides take up a lot of space in my luggage.

An observant reader may notice some gaps in there. I’ve sprinkled in some short stays in other cities where a layover made sense. Even in these cases, however, I made sure I stayed at least a full day (except Kiev, which I added in after Ukraine International Airlines messed with my Colombo-to-Barcelona flight) to get a feel for the place:

  • Colombo, Sri Lanka: 30 April-2 May 2018
  • Kyiv, Ukraine: 2-3 May 2018
  • Salamanca, Spain: 15-17 May 2018
  • Rijeka, Croatia: 29-31 May 2018
  • Riga, Latvia: 30 July-1 August 2018

If any of my friends and family are in any of these places the same time as me, please let me know so we can meet up!
